Northwest Montessori has been given the exciting opportunity to work with The University of Texas at Austin in a three-year study for teaching science to children. Each year UT will provide educational materials that aid in the children's exploration of a total of three science topics: Physical Science, Life Science, and Earth Science. Melissa Garcia is UT's representative and will regularly visit our school to meet with students and examine their understanding of the material they're being taught. For the 2009-2010 school year, our students focused on Physical Science with Ms. Garcia. The students learned all about the properties of matter and how to sort and classify each property. Next year, students will begin their study of Life Science. What an exciting occasion! At Northwest Montessori, we strongly believe that science is an invaluable subject that can be taught at any age. We look forward to collaborating with UT over the next few years and are so happy to help in the advancement of teaching science to young minds.
