Parents' Section
• Mr. Navarro came by Ms. Ali's class to give an awesome presentation on motorcycles. He showed all of the students his gear and safety equipment, and the kids loved seeing his Ducati!
• Cpt. Stortz gave a wonderful presentation on Memorial Day and the United States Army. It is so important for our students to learn what our armed forces do for our country everyday.
• Ms. Louie came by Ms. Denise’s class to give a wonderful presentation on Korea. She showed the kids traditional Korean clothing and shared some delicious Korean treats. The kids love trying new foods!
• Mrs. Giarratani gave a presentation on Black History Month to our students of 1905. The students danced, and marched, and learned about famous African Americans.
• Ni Hao! Adam’s mother, Mrs. Huang, gave a truly enjoyable presentation to the students of 1905 about, China. She taught the children all about the Chinese New Year. Thanks again to Mrs. Huang for enriching our Chinese New Year celebration.
• Antonia’s mom, Ms. Schatt, visited Ms. Denise’s class and gave a very informative presentation on Holland. She taught the children some words in Dutch and shared some delicious Dutch cheese with the class. Yum!
• Last Thursday, October 14th, Christina Peck came to Ms. Ali’s call to teach them all about the great country of Italy. She taught our students about the wonderful things Italians have contributed to our society. She even brought some savory herbs for us all to smell!
• Maya’s mom, Bryony, visited Ms. Denise’s class and gave a very informative presentation on Mexico. She taught the kids some phrases in Spanish and shared some delicious pan dulces (sweet breads) with the class. We love it when parents come and share their culture with our students.
• Max’s dad, Mr. Morton, gave a presentation on Argentina to Ms. Denise’s class on Friday, October 22nd. He brought a delicious snack and showed a very interesting Power Point to the class!
• On Thursday, October 28th, Northwest Montessori’s very own, Ms. Jennifer gave a fantastic presentation on her home country of Ecuador. She taught the kids about the different regions, music and animals of Ecuador and brought handmade artisan crafts and clothing to show the children. She even brought plantain and cassava chips for the kids to enjoy!
• Mrs. Shores came by Ms. Ali's class and gave a very informative presentation on recycling and composition. The kids really enjoyed learning "green" tips that will help improve our enviroment.
• Ni Hao! Caroline's mother, Ms. Heath, gave a truly enjoyable presentation to the students of 1905 about Caroline's native land, China. Caroline and her mom dressed in traditional Chinese clothing and taught the children all about the Chinese New Year. Thanks again to Ms. Heath for enriching our Chinese New Year celebration.
• Ms. Denise's class was treated to a wonderful presentation on Brazil. Pietra's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marchetti, and Anna Clara's mother, Ms. Borges, shared their rich, colorful cultures with the class. The children sampled homemade Brazilian chocolates and yummy homemade cheese bread. It is always great to learn about our students' heritage.
• We would like to thank Mrs. Thatcher and her son Eric for giving Ms. Ali's class a wonderful presentation on Spain. The kids really enjoyed Manchego cheese and tasty oranges. They even learned a few new Spanish words. Que divertido!
• Nico and his parents Ellie and Rob Sanchez gave a wonderful presentation on Mexico in Ms. Denise's class. We would like to thank them for all their hard work.
• Mr. Misri and his son Parum gave a fascinating presentation on ocean animals to Mrs. Ali's class. Parum delighted his fellow classmates with facts about sharks, jellyfish, whales, and the ocean floor. The students were buzzing about the interesting marine animals the rest of the day.
• Thank you Laura and Matthew Gilbey for a fantastic presentation on all the cool things that can be seen on a summer road trip through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Texas. We learned all about Ft. Morgan - a civil war fort stocked with old canons and other memorabilia. We also learned about the fascinating creatures that live on the beach (like crabs and jellyfish) and about the exciting Blue Angel Stunt planes.
• Mr. and Mrs. Prath stopped by Mrs. Ali's class and helped their daughter Lily with an interesting presentation on Hawaii. They had a multimedia slide show with pictures and video clips from their recent trip to our 50th state. Our students were intrigued by the beauty and culture of Hawaii and were treated to some delicious pineapple!
• Mr. Clement, Kaden and Kennedy's father, visited Mrs. Ali and Ms. Sunita's classes just in time for Memorial Day to speak with us about his work with the U.S. Air Force. In addition to providing insight into the excitement of flight, Mr. Clement reminded us all of what incredible things members of the armed forces do for us each and every day.
• Our 1905 students had the privilege of listening to Ms. Kim Wehrung, Paul's mom, perform some opera for us. It was such a treat for everyone to learn a little more about different kinds of music and to hear pieces from Mozart and other classical composers.
• Mr. and Mrs. Zavadsky, Benjamin and Alexander's parents, made a visit to Ms. Denise's class and taught everyone about Russian culture, language, and history. We especially enjoyed learning the Russian alphabet! ellow students, Benjamin and Alexander.
• Mr. Green-Musselman, Liam's dad, came to visit Mrs. Ali's class with his Mr. Potato Head in tow to give us a philosophy lesson, proving that we are never too young to start thinking about what it is that makes us who we are.
• Mr. Bordon, Ruby's father, made us all put on our math hats and start thinking about fractions. Everyone had a terrific time!
• Mrs. Huang, Allison's mom, came just in time for the Chinese New Year and told us all about her family's recent trip to China. Our students get so excited learning about foreign places and cultures. It really was a treat for everyone!

We wanted to say a big "Thank You" to all of you for being Anderson's home-away-from-home for the last year. You may know that Anderson had a rough start to his life, being abandoned as a young boy with unaddressed medical issues, his life could have taken a very sad route. When we got him home, we took a leap of faith and enrolled him in school shortly after. At that point he couldn't speak English, and was still in a cast for his foot problems.
Almost immediately after he started at NWM we noticed how happy is was to go each day and how easily he made friends and we knew we made the right decision. We feel the teachers, staff and other children there have made an enormous impact on his life. He is so confident, lively, curious, optimistic and happy...qualities that will carry on with him in every aspect of his life. He can now count to 100, write his name and more, is fluent in English and is not far from reading. Thank you for helping instill him with these values and challenging him to be a great student and citizen. He's so proud of his Memory Book you sent him home with, and still talks about the "Life-cycle of a Ladybug" from the Science Fair. Take care and thank you again!

"My daughter went to this school when she was 2.5 years till she was 5 yrs. She is now 8 yrs. She used to be a skittish little girl, afraid of doing most things. But now she had blossomed and grown to be a well-rounded girl. She has done really well in elementary school so far because of her Montessori background. It is not just the materials that she got exposed to, but also the great learning habits that the teachers instilled. The best part about this school is that it has the right amount of balance between structure and fun/free activities. This school has worked so well for our daughter that we are now sending our son to go there. And he loves it."
"Having an extensive background in education research, my husband and I had high expectations for any pre-school program we would select for our twin boys. Over two years later, we are still quite happy that we followed the advice of another parent to give the program a try. The teachers are all very experienced, and provide structure and support while still being nurturing. Additionally, they help children value education and become motivated independent learners. "Over the years that my son has been at Northwest Montessori House of Children, we have come to love this school, and would recommend it to all parents. What is best is that the teachers and staff seem to love what they do. Along with being firm with the children, they are friendly and affectionate, providing them with a loving, cheerful and encouraging environment. The science fair in my son's class this year was a truly amazing experience. Each of the 30+ children had their own experiment which they presented and shared with their families and some local experts. My son articulated the complete functioning of a doorbell with authority. We were amazing to see how much the children knew not only about their own experiments, but also those of their classmates. I have found that here at Northwest Montessori, they provide the children with a stimulating environment that truly hones their love for learning."
