Summer Reading Program
In the month of July 2010, we will be starting our summer reading program. It is a great way to kids and parents reading together and we are always surprised to see just how many books the students are able to read! Stay tuned for results!
Happy 4th of July!
Northwest Montessori is presenting a spectacular 4th of July show on June 29th and 30th. They will be honoring our great nation with patriotic songs, and sharing a lot of fun facts about America. As a special treat, our students will be naming all the presidents in the the order they served! It will be amazing. On Friday, July 2nd, Northwest Montessori will be closed. Have a happy and safe 4th of July!
Welcome Summer!
1905 celebrated the official start of summer with a hot dog cook out. All the students were treated to grilled hot dogs, and grapes. It was a delicious way to kick off the summer.

Father's Day
It's time for Dads to get their due! We are honoring them this month with special projects, songs, and activities. Our community of parents is integral to making our school run smoothly and we can't wait to show our gratitude. Maybe if Dad is lucky, there may be some donuts for him!
Mother's Day

We are celebrating Mom at Northwest Montessori with crafts and other special treats. We want to honor our Mothers for everything they do for us, and we hope they have an extra special Mother's day.
Cinco de Mayo
May 5th, 2010
We will be celebrating the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo. We will have a parade, do a traditional Mexican folk dance, and enjoy some Mexican cuisine. We are excited to celebrate the heritage and culture of our southern neighbors. It will be a fiesta to remember.
Science Fair
The annual Science Fair is coming! Ms. Sunita's class will have their Science Fair on April 28th, Ms. Denise's class will have theirs on April 29th and Ms. Ali's class will present theirs on April 30th! The anticipation of the science fair has cheeks flushed and eyes twinkling. School will be closed Monday, July 5th in observance of Independence Day. The children have been working so hard on their experiments and can't wait to show off what they have learned and made!
Easter Egg Hunt
March 31st, 2010
The Easter Bunny is hopping by to hide eggs for our Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Wednesday, April 8th. The kids have their baskets ready and are raring to go! In addition to the treasure hunt, it is a day filled with games and special art projects. It is always a fun time, and everyone gets their fair share of treats.
Green Day
March 12th, 2010
Since we'll all be enjoying our Spring Break over St. Patrick's Day, we decided to celebrate the holiday a little early by wearing green, bringing green show and tells to share with the class, and bringing some green food in our lunchboxes. St. Patrick's Day has been observed as a religious holiday in Ireland for over a thousand years, but in modern times has come to symbolize a celebration of all things Irish. So let's take the day to enjoy shamrocks, leprechauns, pots of gold, and of course, the color green.
Chinese New Year

Not only is it Valentine's Day but it is also Chinese New Year! This is the Year of the Tiger. There's actually a lot more to it than lion dances and firecrackers, although these two pieces of tradition are integral and more visible, Chinese New Year to China is like Christmas to the West. Valentine's Day Party
Friday, February 12th
What better way to celebrate the season of love than to have a party with all of our friends. We'll all take a day to celebrate with all our friends at Northwest Montessori. We'll all eat some pizza, play some games, and exchange some Valentines. Don't forget to wear your pink and red!
Presentation on England
Friday, January 22nd
Ms. Denise's class warmly welcomed a presentation on England done by Mr. and Mrs. Cecil. The students had a wonderful time learning different British words and they even got to sign a song by the Beatles! The best part though was when they all got to eat jam tarts, a British delight eaten with tea.
Pajama Day
Friday, January 22nd
Break out the bunny slippers because Northwest Montessori is having Pajama Day on Friday, January 22nd! Our students will be encouraged to wear their pajamas and slippers to school for a day of comfy fun! There will also be other fun treats throughout the day.
Winter Holiday Program
December 11th, 2009
On Friday, December 11th the school will be closing early so we can all get ready for our big end of the year holiday program! Please pick up your kids between 12:00-1:00pm and come join us at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church at 5:00pm for an evening full of song, snacks, and Santa. The children have all been working so hard and we cannot wait for you to see what they can do. More details about the program will be sent home in the coming weeks.

Thanksgiving Lunch
November 24, 2009
We are coming upon an exciting and very busy time. Northwest Montessori will host our annual Thanksgiving lunch on Tuesday, November 24th. As part of this celebration the children will be preparing their traditional Thanksgiving vegetable soup. Also, the school will serve a turkey dinner with various side dishes, including dinner rolls, dressing, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie!

Bat Presentation
October 22nd, 2009
Diane Odegard from Bat Conservation International is stopping by our school to give a presentation on bats. She will be bringing by some of her winged friends, including the African Flying Fox bat, and some fruit bats. Austin is proud of its bat population, and we can't wait for our students to learn more about these great creatures. It will be awesome!
Costume Party
On Friday, October 30th we are having a costume party! Everyone will be dressed up and ready for fun. It will be a day full of games, songs, and other special activities. Ms. Ali's class will even be carving a Jack O'Lantern! All the students are going to look so adorable in their costumes, we'll make sure to take a lot of pictures!
Fall Festival
Northwest Montessori will be celebrating the coming of autumn with a Fall Festival. All month long we will be doing special fall related activities. We will be singing songs and doing crafts about apples, squirrels, leaves, and other fall things. In addition we will enjoy special snacks, and will wear orange, red, and yellow on appointed days. We can't wait for all the fall fun. We love autumn!
African Safari
September 24th, 2009
The African Safari program consists of a series of adaptable performances aimed at providing a better understanding of the African continent. It includes A Day in Africa (geography, culture, and lifestyle), Folktales from Africa (authentic stories, poems, and sayings), Echoes of Africa (music and dance), and African Art (carvings, clothing, and instruments). Mostly performed for children, a main goal of these performances is to encourage a more tolerant attitude towards cultural differences.
Elizabeth Kahura was born and raised in Kenya and has given over 700 school presentations on African culture and lifestyles in an effort to encourage greater tolerance toward cultural differences.

APD Safety Presentation
Friday, August 21st
On Friday, August 21st, an officer from the Austin Police Department is coming to speak to our students about safety and Stranger Danger. It should be a fun and informative presentation. Our kids can't wait to learn some important safety tips, and to hear about everything APD does to protect and serve us!
Pajama Day
Friday, July 24th
Break out the bunny slippers because 1095 is having Pajama Day on Friday, July 24th! Our students will be encouraged to wear their pajamas and slippers to school for a day of comfy fun! There will also be other fun treats throughout the day.
Pet Appreciation Day
Friday, July 17th
On Friday, July 17th, 1905 is celebrating our four-legged friends on Pet Appreciation Day. Students can bring a picture of their pet, a stuffed animal, or even a small caged animal. Tails will be wagging when we talk about how much our pets mean to us!
Nutrition Presentation
Some University of Texas students came by and gave Ms. Ali's class a presentation on nutrition. Our students learned the all about fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods. It is very important to instill good eating habits at an early age and our students can't wait to share their new knowledge with their families.
Safety Awareness Day
It's Safety Awareness Day here at Northwest Montessori. As a special treat for the kids, a real fire engine will be stopping by and we are going to learn all about fire safety and what fire fighters do for us each and every day.
Book Fair
On Friday, June 19th Usborne books is having a book fair! We encourage literacy here at Northwest Montessori, and this is your opportunity to buy some great new books for your blossoming reader. They will be here at 7:30-9AM and 3-6PM for your convenience.
Earth Day
April 22nd, 2009
Earth Day is next Wednesday, the 22nd, and we're celebrating our home planet in a number of ways. We are educating our students about the Three R's, reduce, reuse, and recycle. Plus, we have a lot of great activities planned, including creating recycled art. We love our Earth!
Spring Break
March 13th, 2009 to March 20th, 2009
Northwest Montessori will be closing its doors from Monday, March 16 - Friday, March 20, 2009 for Spring Break. We wish you all a wonderful holiday full of quality time spent with family and loved ones, fun memories under the sun, and hopefully, some much needed relaxation.
Dental Presentation
Dr. Celie Harden, DDS will be giving a dental presentation to our students. She will teach them all about teeth and maintaining good dental hygiene.
